Description

Oxandrolone (Anavar, Oxandrin) is a synthetic dihydrotestosterone derivative with a 2-oxa modification that extends the steroid scaffold at the A-ring by one oxygen atom. The additional 17α-methyl group enables oral bioavailability without immediate first-pass breakdown.

Per study reports Oxandrolone is considered the mildest of classical 17α-methyl steroids. Clinically the substance was long approved for recovery after severe burns and for HIV wasting treatment. Anabolic action is moderate, androgenic activity low, aromatization practically absent.

Pharmacokinetically orally bioavailable with about 8-10 hour half-life, requiring two daily doses. Steady-state within 2-3 days. Bioavailability is very high at about 95% - a consequence of the 2-oxa modification that reduces first-pass hepatic metabolism.

In recreational research practice Oxandrolone is the standard compound for cutting phases and women’s research setups (low virilization incidence). Hepatotoxicity is lower than under classical 17α-methyl steroids like Dianabol or Anadrol but not zero - longer cycles need liver monitoring.

Known effects in studies: marked decrease in HDL and increase in LDL, mild ALT/AST elevation, low HPG axis suppression compared to other orals. Anavar is on the WADA banned list.

Oxandrolone is considered the mildest of the classical 17α-methyl steroids per study reports, yet still sits clearly in the upper range of the risk scale. The effects documented in the literature are milder than under Dianabol or Anadrol, but not negligible.

• Liver strain: Oxandrolone is 17α-methylated. Mild ALT/AST elevations are documented, and liver monitoring is advised in the literature for longer protocols.
• Lipid profile: studies describe a marked decrease in HDL and an increase in LDL, regarded as an unfavorable cardiovascular shift.
• Suppression of natural production: suppression of the HPG axis is documented, lower than under other orals but present.
• Virilization: despite low androgenic activity, virilization effects at higher doses are described in the literature.
