Description

Cardiogen (Ala-Glu-Asp-Arg) is a synthetic tetrapeptide of the Khavinson bioregulator class with tissue-specific action on the cardiovascular system. The substance was developed at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology for investigating age-related cardiac gene expression changes.

Per study reports Cardiogen activates the Khavinson class’s epigenetic pathway: short peptides bind to DNA regulator regions and modulate gene activity in cardiac muscle tissue. Preclinical studies describe effects on protein synthesis in cardiomyocytes and normalization of age-related cardiac markers.

Russian research literature documents data accumulated over years on Cardiogen from animal studies and limited human studies. International replication from Western European or US laboratories remains very limited - the data is primarily centered on the Khavinson institute.

Typical application is in 10-20 day courses two to three times per year. Subcutaneous or intramuscular injection.

Risks & Safety

Cardiogen is classified as very mild in the available literature and is among the most well tolerated compounds of the Khavinson class. In the available preclinical and limited human research, no relevant toxic effects have been documented.

Observed in research and reports:

  • Injection site: mild redness or transient irritation with subcutaneous or intramuscular use is the most common observation. The tetrapeptide itself is considered low-reactivity.
  • Very thin human data: the data base is primarily centered on the Khavinson institute and consists of small, predominantly Russian-language studies. International peer-reviewed replication is largely absent, and robust long-term data on the cardiovascular safety profile do not exist.
  • Course-based pattern: the use described in the literature occurs in short 10-20 day courses. No data exist on the safety profile of continuous administration.
